One of the things we learn as psychotherapists is to interpret what clients are actually saying versus the words they speak.
This is not to say that clients lie. I have found those with whom I have worked to be incredibly honest. They were investing a substantial amount of time and money into their sessions to learn more about themselves and how they could achieve their goals and dreams.
And yet we all have our defenses.
As a client myself, I have benefited enormously from psychotherapists who could see through my defenses and careful choice of words and lead me to the heart of the truth ebbing or perhaps bleeding through. Read the rest of this entry…

Stacy-Deanne | I Say I Love Writing, But Maybe I’m Just Insane
Posted by Anjuelle Floyd | Filed under ... anjuellefloyd ..., Articles and Essays, Why Do I Write ...
I never intended to become a writer. It started as a fluke.
I’d always loved reading, had a big imagination and talent for crafting stories but hadn’t inspired to do it professionally until I turned nineteen and got my first computer.
From that moment another world opened up to me.
My very first story started from a vision of this boy on the beach. I just couldn’t get this out of my head.
Everyday I added to that scene and before long I had my first finished novel.
After seeing that nothing else had ever made me feel so good as writing I decided to try to become a published author. Read the rest of this entry…

HEAVEN, a novel (& music CD) by Kimberly Cain 2010
Heaven is a novel about the nature of God as seen through the eyes of an exotic dancer.
It is a story of healing the perceived separation between the sacred & the sexual self.
The modern-day Eve is intent on questioning accepted religious norms and presenting her unique ideas about humanity’s relationship to the Divine.
What if the mythical Serpent was really a savior, inviting humanity to awaken from a mindless existence?
What if Eve was a heroine, courageous enough to buck the system and take the Serpent up on his offer to bust out of the cage?
Eve discovers her power to discern truth from falsehood at the hands of her religiously abusive foster family.
She chooses to release her light into a dark world by combining her love for music and dance, stripping naked as a symbol of fearlessly unmasking her true Self.
Her passion for challenging society’s labels as representations of “truth†brings controversial and dangerous repercussions from club patrons, cops, and religious zealots. Read the rest of this entry…

Self-Publishing v. Traditional Publishing
Posted by Anjuelle Floyd | Filed under ... anjuellefloyd ..., Event, Interview
What are the differences between traditional publishing and self-publishing?
Where do the two converge?
Where do they stand distinct?
What if your book is non-fiction or fiction?
How does this affect they way to seek to bring it to print?
How do you balance marketing your book–fiction or non-fiction–with writing the book?
Can authenticity and embedding a bit of yourself–who you truly are–in your promotion tactics create an effective marketing strategy, one that pays off in both the establishment of your brand, and achieves the sale of books?
Non-fiction author Sharon Saylor, and fiction writer, Anjuelle Floyd will address these questions during Self-Publishing v. Traditional Publishing, a discussion hosted and moderated by Elizabeth Stark Powers, author of Shy Girl: A Novel, writing teacher, and founder of Book Writing World.

Of Fiction, Facebook and Potential Consumers of Our Writing…

Authors and publishers must be willing to provide an entertaining, well crafted, and substantive product if both are to thrive and achieve financial success in the 21st century marketplace.
This takes time.
Authors must also fine and devise ways to remain in contact with our readers.

[Writer's Digest]–â€What’s the most important change happening in the publishing industry right now that’s impacting the future of the author-agent relationship?â€
[Agent--Paige Wheeler of Folio Literary Management]: “The change in the delivery mechanism is huge. Barriers of entry to publishing are down, and authors are able to make (their work) available to anyone with an Internet connection. It’s still a small percentage of the business, but it’s growing. ..the two biggest obstacles to success seem to be spectacular editorial content and the market capability to reach a vast audience. At Folio, we’ve been exploring opportunities (for) providing outside services (marketing, speakers services, licensing, apps) to really serve (authors’) needs.â€
–Evolution of the Literary Agent, Writer’s Digest, October 2010
Agent, Paige Wheeler’s response to the question presented by the interviewer from Writer’s Digest gives a succinct summary of the new world of publishing that is available to writers and authors in connecting with readers.
Her comments also tell what we must do to be successful as career authors. Read the rest of this entry…

Of Agents, Publishing and Writers…

I recently read an article in the October 2010 Issue of Writer’s Digest Magazine.
While it bears the title, Evolution of the Literary Agent, one could easily substitute the word Publishing, for Literary Agent and the title would remain consistent with the content, if not more in line with and indicative of the topic(s) discussed and information given.

Danica Davidson–Why I Writer and What Is My Process?
Posted by Anjuelle Floyd | Filed under ...the writing life..., Why Do I Write & What Is My Process
I know this may sound like a cliché to writers, but I never chose to write.
Writing chose me. I started telling stories not long after I could talk, and, by the time I was three, my parents starting writing down the stories I would dictate.
They were simple stories, and usually about cute animals or dinosaurs, but they had plots. Back then, I didn’t think of myself as a writer. I just knew there were stories going through my head and I would tell them. Read the rest of this entry…
